Sports Tech Industry Expert Will Help Prevent Biometrics Expand Operationally and Commercially
The globally experienced commercial leader joins to drive the growth of Instrumented Mouthguards (“iMGs”) throughout Rugby at all levels of participation.
MINNEAPOLIS (July 21, 2022) — Prevent Biometrics, who developed the industry-leading iMG used by World Rugby, Rugby Football Union, Rugby Football League, Super League, Leeds Beckett University and and the US Department of Defense, announced today that the ex-professional Rugby player and experienced sports technology leader, Erik Lund, will join the company as Vice President of Rugby.
In his role, Lund will work closely with CEO Mike Shogren to help the company expand its impact on player welfare globally. Impact will come from enhancing existing partnerships with prestigious clients in World Rugby, the UK’s Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football League, as well as growing new association clients for both Elite and pathway players. Lund, who played internationally, is personally driven by his own experiences of collisions over a 10 year professional career. Lund commented;
“My passion for safety in Rugby comes from both playing professionally and as a sports tech leader. Improving player welfare within sport is a personal passion of mine, and Prevent is the company best positioned to make the biggest global impact. I see iMG technology being implemented at all levels of Rugby globally, helping participation thrive in a sport that’s given me personally so much.”
Prevent holds global patents on the world’s most accurate iMGs, which provide medical and performance professionals real-time data on collisions an athlete sustains in competition or practice. Officials across Rugby are currently using the data by Prevent to consider changes to head impact assessments and for load management.
Beyond Rugby, Prevent’s iMGs are used in studies of head trauma in American football at the University of Nevada, Indiana University and Ohio State amongst others. The United States Department of Defense also utilizes Prevent’s iMGs to study head trauma.
“Erik carries tremendous credibility with executives across Rugby,” Shogren said. “Given our ubiquity within the sport, it was critical we identify someone to effectively support those relationships. Combined with his sports tech knowhow, Erik is best positioned to be effective in this role.”
